Clinical Research
Our practice actively participates in clinical research studies. By doing so, we help to advance the field of gastroenterology, and we offer our patients access to treatments that might otherwise not be available. All of our studies are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and/or clinical research organizations, and they typically involve hundreds of subjects at numerous sites.
These studies are all approved by an independent institutional review board and are planned, organized, and executed according to the highest professional standards.
David Stockwell M.D. serves as principal investigator for all of our studies. Before joining our practice in 2006, he earned a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in clinical research at the Harvard School of Public Health. He also served on the faculty at the Harvard Medical School and published several academic articles.
George Burns, L.P.N. serves as our Clinical Research Coordinator. He is a board certified nurse with many years of experience in gastroenterology. George has been a nurse since 1977, he joined our practice in 2001. First as our Clinical Manager of our Endoscopy Suite, and then as Clinical Research Coordinator since, January 2011.
All of our physicians are actively involved in recruiting appropriate patients for our studies.
Since 2001, our physicians have participated in clinical research studies of:
• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
• Chronic Constipation
• Ulcerative Colitis
• Ulcerative Proctitis
• Crohn's Disease
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome
• Celiac Disease
• Colon Cancer Prevention
• Clostridium Difficile (C-Diff) Infection

Choosing to participate in a research study is an important and personal decision. Our studies sometimes offer benefits such as free medication, office visits, blood testing, and monetary reimbursement. If we have an ongoing trial that might interest you, please speak with your doctor to see if you are eligible to participate.
