Alan P. Ganderson, MD
Dr. Ganderson was born in Durham, North Carolina and grew up in Plymouth, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. He did his internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the University of California Health Sciences Center in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he served two years in the United States Air Force, followed by completion of a two-year fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Ganderson entered practice in Virginia Beach in 1978. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and President of the Medical Staff of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and served for many years as the Director of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Dr. Ganderson and his wife, Jan, have two children and three grandsons. His special clinical interest is inflammatory bowel disease.
